Simple Life

Hey Loves! It’s been so long since I’ve written a post. So much has happened in these past few months that has pulled my focus away from my blog. But now that I’m settled into my new place and new job, I’m finding more time to devote to writing and other ventures.

Today, I wanted to chat about my new blog name! If you haven’t noticed, I changed my blog name to “Simple Life by Megan Perez.” Why? Because I’m finding that as I’m getting older I’m changing. I find that I’m not all about having the most expensive things or tons of materialistic items. I’m more about having the #simplelife now. Life isn’t about the “things” it’s about the experiences and growing through them. Now don’t get me wrong, I still care about fashion and beauty and what not, so don’t worry I will still have those posts here! But my goal with this is to try and help you all live the #simplelife too and to inspire your own personal growth in different areas of your life. I’m a firm believer that you can never stop growing and honestly you shouldn’t want to stop growing!

So for now, I’ll leave you with that. Don’t worry, I’m working on content right now to share with you on different tips and tricks to help you live out that #simplelife! Don’t forget, you can always leave comments below on anything you’d like me to cover!

Have a great day loves!

xoxo,

No Shopping (Part I)

So, my I decided to give myself another challenge this year. Not only is my new word such a challenge (see my previous post), but I have also decided to not to purchase any clothes or shoes until April. Now, for some that may sound super easy. But for someone like me, a shopaholic, that is really hard to think about!!!

Some may even wonder why I decided to do this. Well, my biggest reason was we’re going to be moving within the next 6 months. I don’t know exactly where we’ll be moving to just yet because we’re still job searching. So, I don’t know if I’ll be staying up north for a few more years or moving back down south. So why would I spend more money on clothes for the north if there’s a possibility that I may not stay up here?! Logical right?! But still…going to be very hard.

This weeks post is all about finding what is in your closet and making it work in multiple ways. That is going to be my life for the next couple months so I figured why not share those ideas with you all!

First up, the basic. Everyone has a basic tee shirt. I have multiple so now is the time to bring those babies out and start using and abusing them!

IMG_8718

The first outfit I chose was a basic tee with jeans and sneakers. This is a casual outfit that you can wear anywhere and even if the weather is a bit colder out, throw on a cardigan or blazer and your set! I also paired with outfit with my engraveable bangle from Stella & Dot, bar necklace and gold earrings. These pieces really dress up this outfit and add another element of style.

The second outfit is one I chose for work. Basic top with a midi skirt. This outfit is super comfortable for me and just a downright classic. Through on some tights and booties and I’m set for work! Because I work at a conservative university, I’ll pair this with another long cardigan like this one here. Because I went for an all black look I decided to pair it with this silver statement necklace and stud earrings. This necklace can actually be worn 6 different ways so I have a lot of option in terms of style for this one. I paired this with our wrap bracelet and my Alex and Ani bracelets as well.

The third outfit is one I’d wear for date night! Which don’t come often but when they do, I gotta dress up! I paired this tee with a fun mini skirt that I had. I love the design on this skirt that is makes perfect for a date night outfit. For the colder months, I’m also pairing this with tights and booties. You could also add a leather jacket over top. But since I don’t have one just yet (and now I won’t buy one until May) I’ll stick with this look. Because the skirt has so much detail you don’t really need too much in the jewels area. I decided to pair this with my bar necklace, gold earrings, and simple bangle.

So there you have it! This is one option that I wanted to share with you all! Because I’m going to be doing this for next couple months, I do have some other outfit ideas I want to share later on. But I figured these are good to start! Let me know which outfit was your favorite in the comments below!

Time for a weekend getaway!

So this past weekend my husband and I decided to fly down to Orlando to celebrate my cousin’s Sweet 16. It was so nice to just get away for a weekend. Get out of our normal routine and enjoy ourselves. I purposefully got ahead in both of my grad classes so that I didn’t have to worry about doing homework so it was just a great time. This trip my husband and I decided to only pack a carry on, which of course is very difficult for someone who loves clothes as much as me! But I decided, I wanted to try out our Stella & Dot Getaway bag and see just how much stuff I can fit in!

Of course, I needed to extend the bag to make sure that I fit everything in it! But I was successfully able to fit the following in my bag:

1. Make up bag/brushes
2. Blow Dryer
3. Flat Iron
4. Curling Iron
5. Toiletries
6. Pair of heels
7. Pair of sandels
8. Pair of mules
9. Jumpsuit
10. 2 dresses
11. 4 tops
12. My husbands hats (2 of them that he somehow snuck in my bag without me knowing)

I almost have a feeling I might be missing something but I’ll leave the list at that. Oh! My jewelry! I also packed my Stella & Dot jewels for the party. All in all, I loved traveling with this bag! And trust me, I’m a very honest person so I wouldn’t just say that I love something if I truly didn’t love it. I did keep checking the corners to make sure the seams were popping because I was afraid that I packed it too tight, but nothing happened! Everything stayed perfect! I would definitely recommend traveling with this bag.. If you haven’t purchased one, click this link and get your own! We some super cute prints to choose from too!

Let me know what you think! Xoxo

the importance of a vacation!

sometimes life just gets so crazy for me. my husband and i stay extremely busy so when we get the chance to go away for a couple of days, we jump at the chance. a vacation is something i will always recommend to anyone who has a busier then normal lifestyle. even if it’s just for a few days, go away and recharge yourself. when my husband and i decided to go on a cruise, i was beyond ready and excited for this. we only did a 4day/3night cruise, but that was exactly what we needed. time away from the craziness and our phones for a chance to relax and just be together. most of the time, even when we’re together, one or both of us is on our phone so we’re not really together. which is another tip for newly married couples, put the technology down when you’re spending time together. learn to talk to each other about things. joke around together. act silly with each other. just have fun together and learn to be together with no interruptions. even if it’s just for 15 minutes a day, trust me, you’ll see a difference in your relationship.

img_5490.jpg

we thoroughly enjoyed our cruise, which was through royal caribbean to the bahamas. this was our first cruise together as a married couple so it was a fun experience. normally, you need to go through an experience so you can be more prepared for the future. after this trip, i now know what i need to bring on my next cruise just in case. the first excursion we did was a beach day. and let me tell you, that sun down there is no joke. even though i applied sunscreen like 4 times that day, we still got burnt. and not just a small little sun burn but like lobster face burnt. it was terrible and i was so upset. clearly the sunscreen i brought was not strong enough. the only good thing is that we didn’t plan to do a lot of excursions. this vacation was more for lounging around and relaxing. so we brought our books to read and were able to hang out on the pool deck under the covering.

so what i wanted to do is share my experience and let you guys know what i would recommend that you bring with you on your next vacation. i always like to be over prepared and im sure you do too!

  1. sunscreen: so we brought 30 spf with us. not strong enough. i would highly recommend going with 50 spf or higher, especially if you’re going to the caribbean. the sun down there is not the same so don’t act like you know it is. be safe!
  2. aloe vera: i would highly recommend bringing some aloe vera with you especially if you’re going on a cruise. that stuff sells out quickly on the boat and it’s so overpriced anyways. in the case that you do get burned you’re going to be happy you brought this, trust me. if you don’t have aloe available to you, bring preparation-H.  it may sound crazy but this stuff legit helps relieve any burns you may get being in the sun. we tried it for my husband and it worked.
  3. small handbag: normally i love to tote around my huge MK wherever im traveling. but i have learned to carry light. bringing only the essentials. and for those times where i need to bring a lot of with me, i will always bring a small cross body with me. whenever you’re traveling, no matter where you go, i would always recommend a cross body with a zipper top. that way you can ensure your belongings are protected.
  4. books: the best things about vacation is that you can spend all day reading your favorite book and relax without feeling judged. this is the place and time to do it! sometimes cruise ships can seem boring if you’re not into drinking or gambling (which im not) so having another form of entertainment for yourself is key.
  5. comfortable shoes: this is something i missed. i wish i would have gone to like sketchers or nike to grab some comfy sandals to wear around the beach. having good shoes is no joke either.

spring trends on a budget

okay ladies, so i know that you have all been checking out the nyfw posts and seeing these gorgeous new collections that are out! but if you are also like me then you are longing for some fresh new pieces but need to stay on budget. i feel ya. trust me.

well what i’ve done today is research some of the latest spring 2017 trends and where you can find some great pieces for a low price. are you ready? i know i am!

right now some of the biggest colors are: pinks (any shade), yellows (any shade), lapis blue, flame (a shade of orange), and more. check out an extensive list here.

if you’re like me, the thought of wearing another color other than black, white or grey just makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up straight. but i promise when you see these pieces i’ve found for you, you will change your mind. i know i did. hence why i already ordered some of these pieces! (shhhhh don’t tell my husband!)

trends to look out for:

florals

stripes

slouchy trenches

military jackets

one shoulder looks

of course there are more but i’ve picked a few of my favorites to highlight today.

okay, so i don’t normally do a lot of florals or any print for that matter, but here are some pieces that i might just have to get very soon!!

how this works?? i’ve linked each item that i’ve found and loved (basically did the work for you!) so all you have to do is check these out for yourself and tell me what you think below! here we go!!

florals:

  1. victorian ruffle blouse with tie neck – target ($22.99) this top is extremely gorgeous, plus it has a little black in it, which of course calls out to me.
  2. women’s bomber jacket – target ($39.99) this jacket is beyond awesome. bomber jackets are also very trendy right now so you can mix two trends in one item. please just promise you will at least look at this item!
  3. mid-rise pixie ankle pants – old navy ($29.00) this pants are awesome!!! sooooo many outfit choices with these beauties. plus you can expand your floral horizons to your bottoms and just have fun with this piece.
  4. grey embroidered pointed toe pumps – misguided ($63.00) if your wallet is feeling a little generous, these are definitely the needed splurge item. these shoes are beyond gorgeous. plus the floral print on these is everything.
  5. patterned ruffled blouse – h&m ($49.99) – this top is super cute. not 100% that my personal body shape would work well with this top but it was too cute to not include. i love the print and the added ruffles to it. it’s definitely a bolder look but i am totally loving it.

stripes:

  1. women’s button up shirt dress – target ($34.99) this dress is a great way to incorporate some print into your wardrobe. especially if you aren’t 100% comfortable with print. plus, the detailing on this dress is amazing.
  2. relaxed lace-up tee – old navy ($19.94) another great addition to your closet here. a perfect combination of trendy and comfortable!
  3. striped bardot romper – misguided ($40.00) okay so this is may be more of a splurge item but it is definitely worth it. this romper is perfect for spring and can take you right into summer. promise you will check this one out!
  4. black wrap waist striped satin shorts – misguided ($36.00) another great find that will take you from spring into summer. these shorts are definitely a must have!
  5. short pleated top – h&m ($39.99) this top is perfect to take from work to an evening out. the structure of the top is my favorite part.

coats/dusters:

  1. trench coat – old navy ($58.00) this trench is gorgeous. a little more on the structured side, but gorgeous none the less. if you’re looking for a more relaxed look check out the next couple of choices.
  2. oversized waterfall duster coat nude – misguided ($63.00) this coat is beyond gorgeous. definitely on the more relaxed side if you’re wanting more of that slouchy look.
  3. nude long sleeve d ring detail maxi duster coat – misguided ($54.00) another great coat that is more on the slouchy side. it’s a great color and the detail on it is amazing.
  4. coat with draped lapels – h&m ($69.99) if you need a classic black trench this is the one to get. the structure and belted detail just elevates this classic look.

there you have it guys! a few of my favorite trends and where you can find them.
