Faith Conversations for Kids: Dinner Table Vol. 2
Having conversations with my kids have been the highlight of my day lately. Especially with my almost 7 year old daughter. Talking to her about her day helps me to connect with her on another level. Having those conversations with her opened up doors to other topics that I could discuss with her. For example, she did have an issue with one of the kids in her class. I was able to talk to her through it. We’ve also been able to have some conversations about the Bible which has been really great. While I’m not perfect, I thought I would share some more faith conversations for kids that you can use right at your dinner table.
The dinner table is one of the most powerful places in your home. It doesn’t have to be fancy or perfectly set — it just has to be intentional. Some of our best conversations have happened over a simple weeknight meal, and I truly believe that showing up consistently at the table together is one of the greatest gifts we can give our kids.
So whether your kids are toddlers just starting to talk or elementary-age kids who have opinions about everything (hi, fellow mamas of 6-year-olds!), these conversation starters are designed to open doors — to their hearts, their school days, and their faith.
Everyday & Getting-to-Know-You Starters

School Conversation Starters

- What is something your teacher said today that stuck with you?
Faith Conversations for Kids: Bible Starters
- If you could ask God one question right now, what would it be?
- What is your favorite Bible story and why does it stand out to you?
- Can you think of a time this week when God helped you with something?
- What does it mean to you to be kind the way Jesus was kind?
- If Jesus sat down at our dinner table tonight, what do you think He would want to talk about?
I hope these faith conversations for kids give you a jumping off point for some really beautiful moments at your dinner table tonight. You don’t have to use all fifteen at once — just pick one and see where it takes you. Some of the best conversations I’ve had with my daughter started with a single simple question. Save this list, pull it out at dinner, and watch what happens. I’d love to hear which one becomes your family’s favorite!

Frequently Asked Questions
Why are dinner table conversations important for families? The dinner table is one of the few places in a busy day where your family naturally slows down together. Consistent conversation at the table builds connection, trust, and communication skills in your kids — and creates memories that last well beyond childhood.
How do I get my kids to open up at dinner? The key is to make conversation feel safe and fun rather than like an interrogation. Starting with lighthearted questions before moving into deeper ones helps kids ease in. Conversation starters like these take the pressure off having to think of something on the spot.
What age are these conversation starters for? These conversation starters work best for kids ages 4 and up, though many of them can be simplified for younger toddlers. The Bible and school questions are especially great for elementary-age kids who are beginning to process bigger ideas and emotions.
How often should families have dinner together? Even a few nights a week makes a meaningful difference. Research consistently shows that families who eat together regularly have stronger relationships and kids who communicate more openly. It doesn’t have to be every night — consistency matters more than perfection.
Can I use these conversation starters outside of dinner? Absolutely! These work just as well in the car, at breakfast, or during a quiet moment before bed. Any time you have a few minutes of face time with your kids is a great opportunity to connect.
