Faith as a Form of Self-Care

When we think about self-care, we usually picture the obvious things — rest, skincare, a walk outside, a quiet cup of coffee.

But there’s another layer we sometimes overlook.

Spiritual self-care.

As believers, time with Jesus can quietly become just “quiet time.” A box to check. A habit we know we should maintain.

What if we began seeing time with Him as one of the most essential forms of self-care?

Not only for spiritual growth.

But for real rest.

I’ll be honest — I forget this too. There are days I prioritize other comforts before I prioritize sitting with the Lord. Yet when I reflect on the moments that truly restored me, they weren’t naps or nights off.

They were the moments I sat with Him.

What Spiritual Self-Care Actually Looks Like

This doesn’t mean spending hours reading and praying every day.

If your season allows that, what a gift. But most seasons of motherhood are full and unpredictable.

Spiritual self-care often looks much simpler.

It’s the whispered prayers when you’re exhausted.

The moments when words fail you.

The times you sit in your office, close your eyes, ask for peace — and then allow silence.

Some days it’s me in leggings and an oversized shirt, slippers on, hair undone, standing in my kitchen after the kids have argued over toys for the fifth time.

Other days, it’s quiet presence. No tears. No dramatic emotion. Just stillness.

Those are the spaces that restore me most.

The honest ones.

Because He sees me.

He understands what I’m carrying, even when I can’t fully articulate it.

Faith Is My Daily Anchor

This kind of care isn’t occasional.

It’s daily.

It anchors me.

In those moments, I don’t just receive peace — I receive wisdom. Guidance for parenting decisions. Clarity in marriage conversations. Perspective when small frustrations feel overwhelming.

Time with Jesus doesn’t drain me.

It renews me.

Faith isn’t another task demanding energy. It’s the place where energy is restored.

A Gentle Encouragement for Tired Moms

If you’ve been feeling depleted, consider sitting before the Lord — even for a few minutes.

Talk to Him.

Or don’t.

Cry.

Or simply breathe.

Ask for peace. Then be still.

Faith in Jesus isn’t what exhausts us.

It’s what sustains us.

You don’t need perfection.

You need presence.

And He is already there.
