Disney World Ride Height Requirements: A Mom’s Complete Guide

We just got back from a long summer in Florida. And while I loved every single minute of it, I’ll be honest — I’m glad to be home and back in our rhythms. But before the summer memories fade, I had to write this post about Disney ride height requirements because it’s one I genuinely wish I had read before we went.

We are annual pass holders and we take full advantage during the summer since we live in New Jersey full-time. This summer we were easily hitting Disney three to five times a week. It was magical, chaotic, sweaty, and everything in between — and I would do it all over again.

But there were some sad moments for my kiddos. And the biggest one? The excitement of spotting a new ride, running up to it, and then being told they weren’t tall enough to ride. My heart broke every single time.

I’ll be honest — I didn’t research ride height requirements very well before our first visit this summer. After the first rejection I started paying more attention, but by then the damage was done. Had I known in advance, I would have steered us in a different direction before we even walked up. No anticipation, no rejection, no tears at the height stick.

So in an effort to help other mamas avoid that exact moment — I put together a complete breakdown of every Disney World ride with a height requirement, organized by park and sorted by height. All you need to do is measure your littles before you go and you’ll know exactly which rides are theirs and which ones to skip — or swap with the Rider Switch program (more on that below).

Let’s get into it.

A Quick Note About Rider Switch

Before we get to the breakdown — if you have kids of different heights, Rider Switch is your best friend. It allows one parent to wait with the child who doesn’t meet the height requirement while the other rides. Then the waiting parent gets to board without going back in the full queue. Up to two additional people can join on the second turn. Ask any Cast Member at the ride entrance to set it up.

Magic Kingdom Ride Height Requirements

Magic Kingdom is actually the most family-friendly park for little ones — most of its rides have no height requirement at all. The ones that do are:

No Disney ride height requirements — any height can ride:
The Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise, “it’s a small world,” Peter Pan’s Flight, Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, Mad Tea Party, Under the Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid, Walt Disney World Railroad, Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak Station, and more.

  • Test Track — 40 inches
  • Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind — 40 inches
  • Mission: SPACE (Green/Orange) — 40 inches

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Height required:

  • Kali River Rapids — 38 inches
  • DINOSAUR — 40 inches
  • Expedition Everest — 44 inches
  • Avatar Flight of Passage — 44 inches

Quick Reference by Height

Here’s the cheat sheet version — find your child’s height and see exactly what they can ride across all four parks:

32 inches and up:
Tomorrowland Speedway (supervised)

35 inches and up:
The Barnstormer

38 inches and up:
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Slinky Dog Dash, Kali River Rapids

40 inches and up:
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Test Track, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Mission: SPACE, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, DINOSAUR

44 inches and up:
Space Mountain, Expedition Everest, Avatar Flight of Passage

48 inches and up:
TRON Lightcycle / Run, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets

At 48 inches your child can ride every height-gated attraction at Walt Disney World.

One More Tip

Cast Members may measure kids twice — once at the ride entrance and again at the boarding area. Don’t gamble on thick-soled shoes to sneak past the requirement. If your child is right on the edge, measure them at home with their actual park shoes on so you know exactly where they stand before you even get in line. Endlesstravelplans

I hope this saves at least one mama from that heartbreaking moment at the height stick. Measure your littles, screenshot the chart that matches their height, and go enjoy the magic — rejection-free.

Happy park hopping!
