Dr. Brandt Product Review

I received a few different products from Influenster to test out and I wanted to share my opinion with you all!

IMG_9195

Dr. brandt hydro biotic recovery sleeping mask: So, the first product I want to talk about it the Hydro Biotic Recovery Sleeping Mask. I was a little nervous to try this product only because I’ve never used sleeping masks in the past so I wasn’t sure how this was going to work. I read through the directions to make sure that I wasn’t going to mess up anything (cause normally I do!) and got to work. I cleansed my face like I normally would, used my toner and then let my face dry. Once my face was dry from the toner, I applied the mask all over my face, avoiding the eye area and lip area. It went on extremely smooth. It honestly felt like I have nothing on my face. I couldn’t believe this was even a mask. After I applied it, I went off to bed.

Now, I normally sleep on my side but since I had this mask on I didn’t want it to come off on my pillow. So, I just slept on my back on that night. Personally, once I’m in a position when I sleep, I don’t move at all. So when I woke up, I knew that the mask didn’t rub off on my sheets or anything. I got up and did my normal morning routine and right before I washed my face I examined it. The mask soaks into your skin while your sleeping so there isn’t anything that you need to like peel off or anything in the morning. But I did notice that after I washed my face that morning, it felt more hydrated and smoother. I’ve used this mask multiple times already since I’ve gotten it and I would definitely say that the results stay the same. Every time I use it, I feel like my skin just had a really good drink of water. I don’t have any more dry spots from the cold weather or anything, it’s amazing. I would definitely recommend this especially for this winter time when the air can be so drying on your skin.

Antioxidant Water Booster: This was another product that I received to test out. I wasn’t sure how I would like this because I’m not really one for adding flavors to my water. Normally they end up too sweet or the flavor is off. This water booster has the following main ingredients:

  1. Green Tea
  2. White Tea
  3. Grape Seed Extract
  4. Infused with Goji and Maqui Berry

Using the stopper, I added some of the booster to my water. The flavor was actually better than I anticipated. I was sweet because of the berries but it wasn’t over sweet. The flavor didn’t have a weird aftertaste or anything like that. Another thing that I love about this water booster is that it is sugar-free, calorie-free and decaffeinated.

According to the bottle the benefits of using this water boost are:

  1. May support the body’s natural detoxification
  2. Formulated with concentrated polyphenols
  3. Supports the body’s defense against the effects of free radicals
  4. Absorbable and easily digestible

I can’t really test most of those benefits because they have to do with my body and what is going on inside. What I can say, is that if these benefits appeal to you (which they definitely appeal to me which is why I’m still using them) than I would definitely recommend you give this a try.

Power Dose Vitamin C & XYY Face Cream: These two samples came together and you’ll see why in a second. The Power Dose Vitamin C is a facial oil that you mix with the face cream for added benefits. Both are considered anti-aging products.

The Power Dose Vitamin C oil has the following benefits:

  1. Helps smooth
  2. Helps firm
  3. Improves clarity

The XYY Face Cream has the following benefits:

  1. Antioxidant infused
  2. Calms skin

When it comes to ANY anti-aging products, I’m a firm believer that you need to be using the product for quite some time to really notice results. Because I only had a few samples to use, I can just tell you my personal experience for the few days that I tried the product. First, I will say that regardless, I would recommend you trying this combination if you are looking for some sort of anti-aging product. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about this brand so I would definitely try it. This product was easy to use and to apply. The smell was amazing. My skin felt really smooth after I applied it. I used it at night so I’m not sure how it feels prior to putting makeup on. All-in-al, I would definitely recommend trying these products.

Fresh or Frozen?

A lot of people have opinions on the whole fresh or frozen veggie topic. I decided that I wanted to do some research into the differences between fresh or frozen veggies.

IMG_8939

The first thing I will say is that I lean towards frozen veggies more than fresh. Here is the reason why: my lifestyle! I love eating healthy first and foremost. My husband and I tend to lean more towards the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle. We aren’t extremely strict about it but we do our best. However, we are so busy it’s crazy. We travel every weekend and our weeks are filled with working, full-time school, rehearsals, and so many other things. Because of that, I tend to purchase frozen veggies that I can quickly make with some kind of protein so that we can eat quick and healthy and keep it moving!

Of course, the first thing on my mind is: “Are these just as healthy as the fresh veggies I used to buy?” That is the most important thing for me. When I’m thinking about my meals for the week, I’m constantly trying to find recipes that are easy and healthy for us. So I decided to do some research on this topic.

According to this article found on WebMD, frozen veggies are actually similar to fresh veggies in nutritional value. Because these veggies are flash-frozen, they hold their nutrients as opposed to fresh veggies that slowly lose it the longer they are exposed to the air prior to cooking or consuming.

I found another article that really stressed purchasing vegetables when they are “in-season.” Anything that is out of season, buying frozen will give you the nutrients that you need.

Of course, another big idea about purchasing frozen veggies is the convenience. Sure, I would love to be able to buy fresh fruits and vegetables and use them in a timely manner before they go bad. But let’s be real. That is just not going to happen! I plan my meals out on a weekly basis but every day there is a possibility that something will change. My husband may get called into work for the night shift so I won’t cook a big dinner because he doesn’t eat when he comes home. My husband and I don’t really like eating leftovers. So, if I make a big dinner for myself, there’s a big chance that it will go in the fridge and stay there. So being able to purchase something frozen to toss in the microwave or on the stovetop for a quick and healthy meal will always be my go-to.

I love taking care of my body but I also our lifestyle. We travel often and stay very busy. I wouldn’t change it for the world. So, knowing that I can 1. buy an option that is still healthy 2. affordable and 3. convenient is always the route that I will take! And normally, I tend to purchase the most organic frozen fruits or veggies that I can find. You don’t have to do this, but right now my husband and I have decided to eat as much organic as we can afford. We’re always trying to keep ourselves in top shape!

I hope you guys found this post useful. If you already go the frozen route, know that you are still making a great choice for you and your family! If you were thinking about going the frozen route, I hope this gave you some confirmation that frozen doesn’t mean unhealthy.

Prayer is Powerful!

Over the past few years, my prayer life has changed. Honestly, praying and reading my Bible was never the easiest. I get distracted very easily, so the smallest thing would take my attention away. As I’ve gotten older though, I’ve started to realize just how important prayer is and how important it is to spend time in the Word of God.

Throughout the years, I’ve tried many different ways to try and keep myself accountable in my devotional life. So today I wanted to share my devotional habits and what I’m doing. Hopefully, this will spur some creative thinking for your own devotional life.

IMG_8938

Right now, I wake up earlier that I used to. Waking up early gives me some time in the morning to spend time with the Lord. I’ve been doing daily devotionals through New Morning Mercies by Paul David Tripp. It’s been a great way to start my morning every day. I also do the Bible reading that is suggested that ties in the daily reading. I love being able to get some encouraging words and read Gods word in the morning. It really sets off my day on the right foot. I’ve gotten so used to it that when I miss a day, everything just feels off.

IMG_8909

I’ve also used index cards to write down my prayers. I really like to have the opportunity to lift other people up in prayer. A lot of the times when I start to pray I lose the words that I want to say. Having the prayers for others already written down helps me to remember to pray for them. It also sparks thoughts and prayers for others that I may not have remembered to write down.

IMG_8917IMG_8918

I love being able to start my day this way. I notice such a difference in my attitude throughout the day. Putting aside the fact that I’m a worship leader, spending time with the Lord as a Christian woman in general is extremely important. Spending time with God in the morning is like spending time with my best friend. It takes time to get to know someone and build a trust with that person. The same thing goes with God. If you don’t put effort into your relationship with Him than He isn’t going to put effort in either. He will not force Himself on you nor will He force you to love Him. He wants us to come to that decision on our own. Because of what I’ve been through in my life, I have come to truly love and appreciate Him. Which makes waking up early every morning that much easier!

Favorite Products From 2017

For those of you who don’t know, I’m a product junkie. I love buying and testing new products. I wanted to share some of my favorite products here with you!

IMG_8843

  • Living Proof Restore Perfecting Spray: I’ve been using this product for probably over a year but I love it. I really do feel like it has improved my hair over time. My hair doesn’t feel as damaged as it did before. My hair is shinier than it was before too. I love this spray! I use it before I start styling my hair because this is also a heat protectant. If you haven’t tried this product yet, you need to!
  • Maybelline Baby Skin Primer: This is literally my favorite primer. I don’t think I can use any other primer after this one. I have large pores and black heads. So this primer legit makes my face look pore-less after I put my makeup on. Of course, it’s not perfect but it’s close enough for me! I would definitely recommend this.
  • Maybelline Fit Me Foundation: I love this foundation! I started using it because during the summer my face gets oily and this is a Matte product. I was a bit skeptical at first but after trying it a few different times, I fell in love. This product keeps my face matte all day.
  • Urban Decay Mattifying Finishing Spray: So the first time I used this product was actually at my cousins Sweet 16. We were all getting ready and they used this spray on my face to set my make-up. I was a little skeptical at first but at the end of the night, in Florida heat I might add, my make-up was still looking amazing. I ended up going to Ulta when I came back from Florida and bought my own! I’ve been using it every day and still love it.

IMG_8838

  • IT Brow Power: I went to Ulta to just shop around one day and it just happened to be the same day at the IT Cosmetic promotions, so their product was everywhere. I walked past a few different products and this one caught my eye. I get my eye brows tinted every couple of weeks but I decided that I needed something to help me get through the weeks between my brow dye. I truly love this product. It’s super easy to apply and goes on super smooth. Plus, the other end is a brow brush. Not much more then you need!
  • Maybelline Master Chrome: I got this highlighter in a Bless Box and this is the very first highlighter that I have ever used. I know that is really hard to believe but it’s true! I had to watch some videos on how to properly apply it because I didn’t want to look dumb! Ha! Anyways, I absolutely love this highlighter. It goes on smooth and the shimmer is just enough for me. You can check out my Instagram (@MeganA.Perez) for different pictures showing off this product.

IMG_8837

  • Almay One Coat Thickening: I got this mascara because I was wanting to try a new brand. For some reason, when I wear mascara, by the end of the day, my eyes start to burn from the makeup. So, this brand really has made a difference in my makeup routine. I found that this brand doesn’t irritate my eyes at the end of the day. I still get great lash coverage without the burn at the end of the day!
  • Naked Skin Concealer: I got a sample of this product and fell in love with it. It gave me some great coverage under my eyes, which is where I used it the most. It was easy to use and didn’t clump up upon application.

IMG_8846

  • Physicians Formula Bronze Booster: My aunt actually recommended this product to me. I ran out of bronzer and she mentioned I should try this brand. Well, I’m glad that I did! It comes with its own brush and mirror so that I can easily apply it where I want it. I have to wear glasses because I don’t have good eyesight so trying to lean against the sink to look at what I’m doing in the mirror isn’t always easy. But the mirror with this compact makes it super easy for me.

There you go! These were my favorite products from 2017. I’ve already got some new products that I’m loving for 2018 that I can’t wait to share with you! You tell me, what were your favorite products from 2017? Leave a comment below!

Love you guys!

No Shopping (Part I)

So, my I decided to give myself another challenge this year. Not only is my new word such a challenge (see my previous post), but I have also decided to not to purchase any clothes or shoes until April. Now, for some that may sound super easy. But for someone like me, a shopaholic, that is really hard to think about!!!

Some may even wonder why I decided to do this. Well, my biggest reason was we’re going to be moving within the next 6 months. I don’t know exactly where we’ll be moving to just yet because we’re still job searching. So, I don’t know if I’ll be staying up north for a few more years or moving back down south. So why would I spend more money on clothes for the north if there’s a possibility that I may not stay up here?! Logical right?! But still…going to be very hard.

This weeks post is all about finding what is in your closet and making it work in multiple ways. That is going to be my life for the next couple months so I figured why not share those ideas with you all!

First up, the basic. Everyone has a basic tee shirt. I have multiple so now is the time to bring those babies out and start using and abusing them!

IMG_8718

The first outfit I chose was a basic tee with jeans and sneakers. This is a casual outfit that you can wear anywhere and even if the weather is a bit colder out, throw on a cardigan or blazer and your set! I also paired with outfit with my engraveable bangle from Stella & Dot, bar necklace and gold earrings. These pieces really dress up this outfit and add another element of style.

The second outfit is one I chose for work. Basic top with a midi skirt. This outfit is super comfortable for me and just a downright classic. Through on some tights and booties and I’m set for work! Because I work at a conservative university, I’ll pair this with another long cardigan like this one here. Because I went for an all black look I decided to pair it with this silver statement necklace and stud earrings. This necklace can actually be worn 6 different ways so I have a lot of option in terms of style for this one. I paired this with our wrap bracelet and my Alex and Ani bracelets as well.

IMG_8726

The third outfit is one I’d wear for date night! Which don’t come often but when they do, I gotta dress up! I paired this tee with a fun mini skirt that I had. I love the design on this skirt that is makes perfect for a date night outfit. For the colder months, I’m also pairing this with tights and booties. You could also add a leather jacket over top. But since I don’t have one just yet (and now I won’t buy one until May) I’ll stick with this look. Because the skirt has so much detail you don’t really need too much in the jewels area. I decided to pair this with my bar necklace, gold earrings, and simple bangle.

IMG_8741IMG_8745

So there you have it! This is one option that I wanted to share with you all! Because I’m going to be doing this for next couple months, I do have some other outfit ideas I want to share later on. But I figured these are good to start! Let me know which outfit was your favorite in the comments below!

If you aren’t already following my social media account (@MeganA.Perez) make sure you do that today for some daily fashion inspiration!

Word: Consistency

So, for the past two years I’ve decided that I need to have a word for the year. Why? I feel like it keeps me focused through the year. I find it gives me drive and motivation.

In 2016 my word was Faith. That year we had felt a call from God to move to Pennsylvania for my husband to go back to school full-time. So, we jumped into this new life really not knowing what we were doing and how we were going to make it. He wasn’t working much more than part time, if that, and I took a pay cut at a new job. We had the same debt and bills to pay off and I was concerned. I took the year to really put my concerns in front of God and keep my faith in Him that he will take care of everything. And throughout the entire year, my husband and I just kept seeing our faith being tested and seeing how faithful God was. Through our relationship, in our finances, through our everyday lives. It was incredible.

In 2017 my word my Trust. I felt as if my trust needed to be strengthened. Now, I do believe that faith and trust go hand in hand but for this past year I felt like I needed to grow in my trust with God and my husband and other relationships in my life. And believe me when I tell you that my trust was tested, in all the above areas. It was a difficult year but it ended on a great note. I can definitely say that I have complete trust in God, my husband and my family/friends. It was a great growing experience for me.

For 2018, I decided that I needed to pick a word that would give me motivation. For some reason, this year I felt like I needed an extra push. I really started this year with the feeling that God was going to do great things. But I realized that if God was going to great things, then I needed to be consistent in my part. What does that mean? If I want God to bless my relationship with Him, then I have to be consistent with my daily devotionals and prayer time with Him. If I want God to bless my health, then I need to be consistent in my working out and healthy eating, etc.. So, this year I decided that my word needed to be Consistency.

That word is just as much motivating as it is challenging and terrifying for me. When I look back on my life there are so many areas in which I notice my consistency level just tanks! I start an 8 week work out program and don’t get past week two. Ever! I start a diet and last about 3-4 weeks. I want better skin but I go to bed with my makeup on because I’m too lazy to take the extra ten minutes to just take it off. Little things like that that have added up to be this life of inconsistent behavior. And to be honest, I’ve had enough! I’m over it. I’m over being inconsistent and I’m over not following through with simple things. If I want to see change and growth, I need to do my part and be consistent in doing it. Will it be an easy journey for me? Oh hell no. But you know what, at least I have to try.

I have set myself up this year with different avenues in which I think can really help me stay accountable to this goal. I set up a large calendar on my wall in my office and everyday I’m writing what I accomplished that day. If I get everything done that was on my to-do list, I give myself a gold star. Is that cheesy? Heck yes, it is! But you know, it feels really good to give myself that star knowing that I fully earned it. And I can’t wait until the end of the month to see a whole month full of stars! I also have my daily planner. I’m checking it every morning and every evening when I come home work. Setting my day up knowing the items that I need to get done and ending the day making sure I’m getting those items done. Being diligent and consistent is the only way I can grow. And it’s the only way that you can grow too. I don’t know what your goals are this year but if this is something you can relate to, let’s do this goal together! Teamwork makes the dream work baby!

So this year, you are going to see a lot more posts on my blog. I’m going to be more consistent in getting my content together. You are going to see more from my business, as an Independent Stylist with Stella & Dot while I incorporate my love of fashion. I have some great things in store and I can’t wait to share them all with you!

Do me a favor and leave a comment! Let me know what you thought about the blog post and what your New Years Resolutions or goals are for this year. If you aren’t already, make sure you are following my Instagram account (@StylebyMeganAlexis) to keep up with my posts on jewels and fashion!

New Year’s Resolutions!

Okay so most of the time New Year’s Resolutions are so personal that not many people share them. But I decided to share mine with you so that I can make sure I’m accountable! Most of the time when people make these resolutions they don’t create actual steps that they can take to make those goals come to fruition. So, what I did was write my goals down. I wasn’t very specific in the actual goal just yet. I just wrote the main goal down. Once I did that, I went back and started writing down steps on how I’m going to accomplish those goals. Of course, my goals are based around my business, blog, faith and health, but you can just use these as examples to create your own resolutions for your personal life. Check it out below:

  1. Lose 30 pounds by May
    1. Work out at least 30 minutes a day 5 days a week. Allowed one skip day if needed, but the skip day can only be taken on a Wednesday.
    2. Cut bread and other carbs during the week.
  2. Take more “me” time during the week.
    1. Take at least 20 minutes a day and do something for yourself. Whether that be soaking your feet and painting your toe nails, doing a face mask and relaxing, coloring, or even song writing. Do something to help you relax and clear your mind every day.
  3. Blog more
    1. Take time every week to work on blog posts. It could be a few minutes every day or an hour every week. Take some time to write, take pics and post. Only way to grow is to be consistent! Post every Tuesday!
  4. Sell more (Stella & Dot)
    1. Reach out to at least one person every week for potential orders or hostesses.
  5. Save more
    1. No clothes or shoe shopping until after graduation in May.
    2. No more unnecessary spending.
    3. Start searching for coupons for groceries.
    4. Limit the amount of times we go out to eat to only the weekends we are traveling.
  6. Pray more
    1. Be intentional about my prayer time. Start every morning with prayer and devotionals and end the day with prayer.

What I did start doing as well is writing everything I accomplished on a wall calendar. It honestly feels so great to be able to write down my daily accomplishments. If you have never tried that, you really need to. It feels amazing!!!

Another tip that I do is I get a new planner every January. I don’t like the calendars that start in August it just completely throws me off. I always get my planners from Target just because they have the cutest ones. But all you need is a planner that you can schedule your week and month.

Also, PRINT OUT OR WRITE OUT YOUR RESOLUTIONS!! I cannot stress this enough. If the only place you write them down is your phone or computer, you will never keep to them. Write them down and hang them on your bathroom mirror or the kitchen wall. Somewhere where you can look at them every day. If you can’t look at them every day than you are going to forget them. Trust me, it happens to me all the time!

Here is a link to Target to check out all the different kinds of planners they have. Click here to shop them.

Let’s make this year a great one! Let me know what your favorite tip was and share some of your resolutions below!! xoxo
