7 Ways to Prepare Your Home for the Holidays
7 Ways to Prepare Your Home for the Holidays
The fall season has arrived! While we’re all sipping on pumpkin spice lattes (if that’s your thing) and pulling out our cozy sweaters, it’s also the perfect time to declutter and get your home ready for the holidays. Because you know your kids will be getting a bunch of toys for Christmas! Before you dive into decorating for Thanksgiving or prepping for holiday guests, take some time to simplify your space. Here are seven easy (and totally doable) decluttering tips to help you enjoy a stress-free holiday season.

7 Ways to Declutter Your Home
Decluttering your home for fall doesn’t have to be difficult! Here are 7 areas you can tackle one at a time to get it done without breaking a sweat.
Start with the Junk Drawer
We all have that one drawer filled with random stuff — pens that don’t work, old receipts, and maybe even some mystery items. Take five minutes, dump it all out, and only keep what’s useful. You’ll be amazed at how much easier it is to find things when it’s organized!
Tackle the Coat Closet
As the weather cools down, your coat closet probably needs some attention. Take out any summer gear (hello, sunhats!) and donate anything that’s too small or never worn. Make space for jackets, scarves, and all the fall coziness.
Declutter Kitchen Counters
With holiday baking and cooking just around the corner, your kitchen will be busier than ever. Clear off the countertops and put away any gadgets or items that you don’t use daily. A clutter-free kitchen makes meal prep so much more enjoyable — and you’ll have extra space for that pumpkin pie!

Purge the Pantry
While you’re in the kitchen, take a peek inside your pantry. Check expiration dates, toss anything outdated, and organize your staples. You’ll be thankful for the extra space when it’s time to stock up on holiday ingredients.
Go Through Kids’ Toys
Before the flood of holiday gifts arrives, now’s the time to go through your kids’ toys. Get rid of anything broken or no longer played with. You can also donate gently used toys to make room for the new favorites that will soon be under the tree.
Simplify Your Fall Decor
As much as we love decking out our homes for fall, less is more. Pick a few favorite decorations to display, and store or donate the rest. Keeping things simple will make it easier when it’s time to swap out fall decor for Christmas lights!
Sort Through Seasonal Clothes
Switch out your summer wardrobe for cozy sweaters, but be honest with yourself. If you didn’t wear it last year, chances are you won’t wear it this year either. Donate or sell anything that doesn’t fit or feel right, and keep only what you love.
One major thing I will say – grab those big yellow storage bins! Coscto usually has a good deal on them. We have a ton from our move and it helps to store and keep everything in good condition and makes decluttering your home for fall a breeze.
By taking small steps to declutter now, you’ll create a more peaceful, organized space to enjoy the holidays with less stress. Plus, you’ll be able to decorate and entertain without feeling overwhelmed by the clutter. So, pour yourself another cup of cider and get started — your future self will thank you!
